PGA HOPE Veterans and PGA Professionals were invited to present at the 2017 Midwest Symposium for Therapeutic Recreation on April 20th, a conference hosted by the University of Missouri welcoming industry professionals from all across the country.
Gateway PGA Professionals Brian Maine, PGA (Whitmoor Country Club) and Sam Gilliland, PGA (Cave Springs Golf Center) presented on the PGA HOPE Program for mentally and physically disabled veterans and how the therapeutic nature of the game of golf has helped hundreds of veterans locally and over 3,500 nationally.
Veteran participants Rick Kaufmann, Bill Wiegand, and Gary York spoke about their personal experiences learning golf through the PGA HOPE Program at the Jefferson Barracks VA Hospital, the types of adaptive golf equipment used for individuals with disabilities, and how they encourage other veterans to come out and give golf a try.
PGA HOPE Clinics are held at Arlington Greens Golf Course (Granite City, IL), Ken Lanning Golf Center (Jefferson City, MO), Eldon Golf Club (Eldon, MO), and The Club at Old Hawthorne (Columbia, MO).
